The Adventures of Nora and Josie (and their parents)

Random moments this week

Nora has a new Bumbo seat. She's a little unsure of it, but she liked being able to watch her bug mobile from a little higher up. We'll try it out again when her neck is a little stronger, I think. I have high hopes for the Bumbo! I can't wait until she's comfortable in it. She loves to be upright, so it's only a matter of time, I think.
Here she is taking a nap on her side. She can scootch around her crib on her own a little bit now, so we had to take all her stuffed animals out. Mama made a cute hammock to hang on the wall to hold all of them, but we have yet to put it up.

Nora was sitting on the couch last night, very happy and alert, so we had a bit of a baby modeling session. Here are some of the highlights!
I think she looks very grownup in this picture. (Well, you know, as grownup as a 2 month-old gets.)
Nora and her (tired) daddy.
Extreme closeup! (This is probably too blurry to print, but I think she just looks like a little doll in it.)
We were trying to take a picture of all three of our hands - see how tightly she's holding on?
Because all she wanted to do was pull those fingers up to her mouth to suck on!
Getting a little tired of modeling...

Dog Days?

Despite being a dog, even Mica is not impressed with the heat wave we've been having. Nora is responding by sleeping a LOT (over 20 hours yesterday) and nursing (for hydration) the rest of the time. Yesterday we even spent the afternoon at the mall just so we could be in the AC and she could have a cooler nap. I think Mica wishes he could come to the mall too!

Despite the heat, we've been doing some visiting with friends and family. Friday evening, Nana and Babchi came to visit (and brought us supper! Thank you!). Nora hung out with her grandmothers while mama and daddy went to pick up some staging that Nana and Babchi needed to paint their kitchen. It took about forty-five minutes, and was the first time that Nora has been away from both parents (and the first time that we've been together anywhere without her). She wasn't too impressed - she cried until she got a bottle, and she was still eating when we got home. I think we'll take it slow on the babysitters for a while yet!

Saturday we went to a birthday party for Aaron's cousins (Nora's second cousins? I can never remember how to figure that out), Alex and Max. It was at Amos Lake, and Nora dipped her toes in the water. It was kind of overcast by the afternoon, so not too super hot, so we abandoned the plan of actually taking her swimming. Hopefully we'll have some pictures from the party soon, when I get them from Nora's Mem.

On Sunday, Abby and Sara stopped by on their way home to Boston from NYC. Here are a couple pictures of sweaty Nora with her Aunt Abby:

Two Months!

Nora had her 8 week well-baby pediatrician visit today, and she's doing great! She's gaining weight and height well, right on the curve, and she's up to 25" long and 14 lbs 5.5 oz. She's still a big girl, but perfectly healthy! Her first immunizations were today too, and that was not particularly popular. Three shots in my baby's tiny chunky little thighs... I may have cried more than she did (but not as loud). The nurse warned us that pretty much any behavior is common after shots, and the two most common reactions are sleeping all day and screaming all day. So far, anyway, Nora seems to be going with the former. As soon as she nursed a little and calmed down after the shots, she fell asleep and slept through getting put in her carseat, stopping at the store to pick up a prescription to clear up her eye gunk, and coming home. She's sound asleep in her crib right now:

And yes, she sleeps with one foot straight up in the air when she's not swaddled. Aa thinks she gets her weird sleeping positions from her mama!

Nora's Maine vacation, part 2

For the first part of Nora's vacation, check out the previous post. I can't seem to reverse the order!

Nora was a little uncertain when a cold wave washed over her feet at the beach, but she seemed to like the new sensation of wet sand under her toes. She even got used to the little splashes! It wasn't warm enough for her to go all the way into the water, so we stuck to wet feet for her. It was really warm (for the Atlantic in Maine in July) though, and mama and daddy took turns swimming.

Of course, Nora had to meet Wally the Frog on the way out to Brightwater.

Vacation was so exhausting that Nora slept nearly the whole way home!

We all had a fabulous time, and we can't wait for the next Maine vacation. Not to worry - we're headed north again in about 3 weeks. And hopefully we'll be joined for a weekend by Nora's Aunties, Abby, Sara, and Emily, and her Uncle Ben! Yay!

One Morning in Maine...

Nora woke up. And we all had a wonderful, relatively relaxing, vacation at Brightwater! We were very lucky to not hit any traffic at all (on a holiday weekend! Unheard of...), and we even got to stop at Aunt Abby's weekday apartment in Portland for supper on the way up. The weather was lovely most of the time, and we were able to enjoy lots of good food at the cabin as well as at Sarah's Cafe and Red's Eats, walks around the Boulevard, a day of sightseeing in Boothbay and even a sunny day at the beach. Key to the vacation avec babe was Nora's "pod," a portable foldup bed with a sunshade and zip up mosquito net. We set it up downstairs at Brightwater, and she took all her daytime naps in it. It was nice to have a bug-free place to put her, and she loves the toys dangling overhead. Mobiles and other interesting things to look at overhead are Nora's favorite things in the world right now... We even brought it to the beach so she'd have a shady spot to nap there!

Nora always likes having her diaper changed and being swaddled for a nap, even on the road:

She slept through a train right past our picnic table in Wiscasset:
